Wouldn’t it be great if we could all afford to pay SEO experts to create and optimise our websites? Unfortunately, that’s well out of most business owners’ budgets. Which is why I’ve put together a list of brilliant tips from SEO experts around the world. Let’s begin…

1. Build Your Website on a Solid Foundation of Data and Keyword Research

Build your website’s information architecture, URL structure and plan the way content is organized on the domain, on a solid foundation of keyword research and detailed analysis of your search data. Your goal should be to build a customer-centric destination that works 24/7 at attracting fresh business.

2. Have Content Deliberately Written to Be Highly Linkable

Get some content written on a broad enough topic that you can work it into guest posts and other link opportunities that come your way. Content written on a highly sought-after topic will get many more link backs.

3. Have Your Site Analysed in Terms of Existing SEO

Actually spend the time and money to have your site analysed in terms of its existing SEO. So often people aren’t willing to spend money to have a professional dig in and figure out a good plan of action.

4. Don’t Underestimate How Important Branding Is to SEO

Understand what your target audience is looking for. There’s no point ranking #1 on Google for the search term “takeaway food” when your customers are searching for “Menulog”.

5. Understand It’s Not All About Ranking #1 on Google

It’s great to ranky highly on Google, but there’s not much point if you can’t convert people once they’re on your site. Invest in a well-designed, intuitive site that your users understand how to use.

6. Invest More in Content

This cannot be underestimated. Investing in high quality content (blogs, free ebooks, case studies, downloadable PDFs, etc.) ensures people keep coming back to your site and share your content so others do too.

7. Perform an In-Depth SEO SWOT Analysis

What are your SEO Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats? Then you can focus on where you need to improve, and hire experts to do that.

8. Make Sure Your Site Is Mobile Friendly

If your mobile site is very poor, or if you don’t have one, it will cause you problems. This might seem like a basic thing, but it’s surprising the number of older sites especially that aren’t optimized for mobile. It’s good to get this covered off.

9. Remove Anything That Slows Down Your Site

If your pages are slow to load, you’re fighting a losing battle for top organic listings, regardless of the quality of your content or your professional website design. Get rid of non-essential elements that slow down your site. If you’re a WordPress user, consider deactivating plugins you may have installed and activated but don’t actually need. Also, declutter your sidebar and put only essential widgets there.

10. Write For Humans First

Write for humans first, search engines second. This means write content that actually helps people, solves a problem for them and is useful.

There are so many other SEO tips out there, and with a bit of Interenet research you can improve your website’s SEO dramatically. Howver it does pay to hire an expert to do it if you don’t have the time to invest. I’d love to hear your SEO tips too!
